This day was notable mainly because on the way down the Grands Envers Dick lost his ski and it slid into a crevasse!
You can see the line down the back of the crevasse where Dick’s ski slid into the slot. Dick’s skis came off with a bit too much regularity, and he was a bit of a stickler for having a ‘safe’ DIN setting. Even after this event he didn’t tighten them up.
It turned out to be good practice mind you. We had to get the rope out, build an anchor, and then I taught Dick how to prussik up before he abseiled in to get his ski.
