Observatory Buttress

Nice clear and sunny day. Yesterday’s precipitation had left a reasonable dusting of snow on everything. Frazer was keen on Observatory Buttress, so we plodded on up there and got stuck in.

The first mixed pitch had a tricky move in the middle of it, mainly due to the fresh snow hiding placements for axes and gear. After that the mixed section eased up and was followed by a short steep section of ice. Then a easy gully led to another small step which brought us onto the large central terrace.

From here we continued up leftwards past another steep section of ice and a bit of mixed work to reach the ridge and then on up to the summit.

My first time on the top of the UK.
